UCD COLLABORATION

We have a unique collaboration with the Veterinary Staff of the University of Dublin. Their specialist surgeons and internal medicine specialists advise us on cases that need specialist input and treat cases at Tullyraine Equine Clinic if the need arises. This makes specialist services very accessible to you as the client, looks after the welfare of your horse by treating them locally and raises the standard of our whole team. It means that your horse’s care is looked after at every possible level. Specialist surgery, dentistry and internal medicine are areas that are covered. The main consultants are:

  • Dr. Vivienne Duggan, MVB, PHD DACVIM DECEIM, Associate professor (Internal Medicine)
  • Dr. Clodagh Kearney, MVB, DECVS, lecturer/assistant professor UCD (Equine Surgery)
  • Dr. John Mark O’Leary MVB, BSC BVMS MSC DECVS, lecturer (Equine Surgery/Dental)

CONSULTING SPECIALISTS

In addition to the UCD specialists, we work with other consulting specialists at Tullyraine Equine Clinic. They perform specific surgeries or do investigative work on difficult cases. These include:

  • Dr. Kevin Corley, DACVIM, DACVECC (Equine Internal Medicine/Critical Care/Cardiology)

ADVANCED PRACTITIONERS

Advanced practitioners are vets who have chosen to increase their knowledge in a dedicated subject area by doing a post graduate certification whilst working in daily practice. This means their level of expertise lies somewhere between practicing veterinarians and specialists. We have internal certificate holders and vets currently studying for their AVP Cert and we also work with other AVPs when the need arises.

  • Inge D’Haese, Cert AVP Equine Orthopaedic Surgery, PGCertVPS, MRCVS
  • Carolyn Perkins, Cert AVP Equine Dentistry, BAEDT, MRCVS
  • Zoe Jameson, MRCVS – studying for AVP cert

PROFESSIONAL COLLEAGUES PHYSIOS/FARRIERS/REHABILITATION

For as long as we have been in business, we have been working closely with other professionals and paraprofessionals to allow for a holistic approach to your horse’s treatment. Make sure we are aware of who is in your horse’s health network so we can work in symbiosis with these indispensable people – communication is key!

We refer horses that can benefit from physiotherapy to Chartered Veterinary Physiotherapists and are happy to recommend and work with these highly trained professionals. We are happy to discuss your horses with your regular physio or can recommend someone.

It is vitally important that vets and farriers work together to give your horse the best possible care. We have liaised with farriers in Northern Ireland for many years and continue to nurture these relationships. In cases requiring remedial shoeing, we can meet your farrier at your yard, or they can shoe your horse at Tullyraine Equine Clinic for you.

Should your horse have an injury that could benefit from cold water treatment (spa), water treadmill, swimming and other treatment modalities. We are happy to refer you to one of the providers of these services. Once again, it is important that we can discuss your horse’s specific requirements in order to find an agreeable treatment plan.
